Korean Airlines – Expansion and Accomplishments
A company was introduced in 1948 called Korea National Airlines, now known as Korean Airlines. This was a private company that eventually went bankrupt in 1962. In 1969, following another complicating launching, the organizational structure they still use today was put together. One notable thing of this company is that they have become 150 times larger since their third and final initiation in the end of the 1960’s. They have made people aware of their resolved to repeat their development efforts in the near future. As a company, the only thing that has allowed them to keep growing is their willingness to adapt and learn. They have been able to make their knack obvious on many different occasions, in which they have been faced with opposition.
Korean air, in the late 2000s, has earned its spot as one of the top airlines in the world. They have expanded their business, since 1969, to over 150 times in size. They currently have over 120 aircraft and almost as many worldwide destinations showing that they have come a long way. Korean Air is a founding member of SkyTeam which is an aviation consortium.
They have partnerships with other airlines, some of the largest, worldwide. Air France, KLM, and Southern Air are a few of the airlines they have partnerships with. Setting very high standards each and every year, KAL always seeks to improve.
Their air fleet is always something that Korean Air Lines is trying to improve. Passenger flights, as well as cargo ferrying, is what they use their wide variety of aircraft for.
They have several aircraft dedicated to aerospace research and development. Expanding in this direction only took them a few years. The mid 70s saw new routes to North America as well as Europe once KAL acquired the appropriate aircraft. They were one of the first to purchase Airbus airliners for routes that traveled to Asia proper and the Pacific Rim.
Also involved with research and manufacturing, Korean Air is entangled with the aerospace industry. A strong point for this company, they will continue to expand in this area. Their research division, Korean Air Aerospace Division, makes a variety of aircraft that are licensed. An example or two of what they create are the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters and MD-500 aircraft. Along with other types of military aircraft, this company also has similar manufacturing projects that are licensed. As you can see, Korean Air has branched out into several other areas and provides various transport needs for the military. Korean Air, early in its history, became involved with cargo flights which most airlines initially do. The demand for transporting international cargo only continues to grow year after year. So it is a natural move to become involved as there are less operating costs involved with no passengers. Therefore, Korean Air has found it very worthwhile to continue to do cargo flights. In 2010, they had a new cargo hub open up in Central Asia that will be a service point between parts of Europe and Asia.
