Finding The Real You
Finding out who you really are is about letting go of who you think you are. We develop certain ideas of who we are and hold onto them, even if they do not fit the real us. Sometimes our habits and even certain ways of being feel so real that we cannot imagine living without them. What do you do then; how do you let go of something that feels permanent to you? What you need to do is to see past the idea of it being permanent, for nothing is permanent and you can change as fast and as often as you desire.
It is how we look at ourselves that keeps something feeling permanent in us, for habits and ways of being are a conscious choice; although, you may not remember the occasion when you chose it. You developed a habit in response to a personal need in your past. The habit then developed into something else and you were left with a behavior as a result. The behavior may not resemble the original response, but it has become part of you. These behaviors, even though they are unnecessary, may feel permanent because they have become so ingrained into your way of being. This may confuse us because somewhere within ourselves we can sense that it is not really us.
So if you have a habit or a feeling within you that feels out of place or not like your real self, there is a way to let it go. By realizing that this habit is not you and that is not necessary, you are starting down the path of letting it go. By going further back into your consciousness, you can find its beginning. If you can find your way to when it developed, you can understand why it is there. Also, one needs to no longer identify themselves by this behavior because this is what keeps it locked in. Whatever is within us that doesn’t feel right, know it is connected to somewhere in our past, and thus belongs only there. Acknowledging that nothing is permanent or stuck within us helps to let it go. Realizing that one can let go of any issue is like understanding that everything in our past no longer exists. Uncover what is not real about you, find the source of the habit to understand it, and realize that it is not your true self so you can let it go.
