How would Google Boost change my online shop?

Google is very important section of every small companies marketing strategy. Getting a great ranking for what you do may result in many, valuable enquiries. The recent introduction of Google Places has produced an opportunity for business owners to get an online presence, even if they don’t have a website. Business owners can add a sumary of the services or products they supply, photos and videos, opening hours and Google will promote this along with a location map and a photograph if the Google Streetview car has been through! If you don’t have a Google Places page, you should get one quick because the landscape is preparing to change with Google Boost.

What is Google Boost?

Google Boost is a local advertising service, advertising just to potential customers in your companies area with regular Google searches, Google Place pages as well as on Google Maps (even on portable devices!). Basically this means that your companies website will move towards the top of the Google search listings, and be published next to the listings under the Google Maps box, as well as moving your Google Place page towards the top of the local listings!

What will appear in a Google Boost ad?

In a Google Boost Advert, you can include the Name of your business, your Company Address and Phone number, a short description of your company removed straight from your Google Places Page as well as a small amount from your Google Place Page giving the average star rating of your business and the amount of reviews your company has recieved. A link to your Google Place page will also be included.

Will Google Boost influence my site’s organic listing in Google Searches?

Google Boost will not affect the ranking of your current listing in the Google search for any word. When a Google Boost ad is paid for, it will begin the auction for positions above the organic listings, called the “Sponsored Ads” section which is only for paid ads.

Your Google Boost ad will also appear with a Red marker on the Google Maps view of the region surrounding your company. This should make it stand out against the other adverts on top of the other markings on the Map.

When will Google Boost be started?

Google Boost has been rolled out in the US and is in testing in the UK.

Google Places is almost exactly like a Google Directory. Remember that regularly, Google can tell where you are searching from and can (and does!) provide tailored results based on some search keywords. Try Googling Taxi Service or Bakery and check if you get local results. Scary eh?

Google Boost is Google Adwords for Google Places. They just keep finding new strategies to make money! Usually when revenue streams are introduced for Google, they mix up the search findings in popular categories so the only way to get higher is to spend more.

For local searches, this has been not as important, because the big volume keywords like ‘mobile phones’ have a bigger bang per buck than ‘Telford bakery’, but seeing as Google Places is all about local, then might this show a change? We’ll have to wait and see.
