Michelangelo paintings and quotes
Michelangelo is one of my favourate artists, he is a man with talent of sculpture, drawings, paintings, poetry and architect. Perhaps he is well know for his beautiful figurative sculptures "Pieta" and "David." Michelangelo paintings are also masterpieces and loved by lots of people.
Michelangelo’s output in every field during his long life was amazing; when the sheer volume of correspondence, sketches, and reminiscences that survive is also taken into consideration, he is the best-documented artist of the 16th century. Despite his low opinion of painting, Michelangelo also created two of the most influential works in fresco in the history of Western art: the scenes from Genesis on the ceiling and The Last Judgment on the altar wall of the Sistine Chapel in Rome. As an architect, Michelangelo pioneered the Mannerist style at the Laurentian Library. At 74 he succeeded Antonio da Sangallo the Younger as the architect of Saint Peter’s Basilica. Michelangelo transformed the plan, the western end being finished to Michelangelo’s design, the dome being completed after his death with some modification.Michelangelo was undoubtedly the greatest marble sculptor during that era, and beyond. He preferred marble sculpting and fresco painting above all other forms, which are two of the hardest style to create in each field. It was perhaps, many have speculated, the physical, intellectual and artistic challenges that provided him the desire for these forms. Even in painting Michelangelo choose the most difficult poses and he continuously layered his work with multiple meanings in reference to religion, mythology, and a number of other subjects.
In his sculptures we can know that he loves male beauty, it is rooted deep on both the physical and eomotional levels. Tommaso dei Cavalieri is his greatest male love who together with other youths posed for Michelangelo’s works.
Michelangelo was destined to be an artist, although he was scolded by his father but this can not stop him from drawing instead of schoolwork. Actually his father was heard to beat Michelangelo on numerous occasions in the hope of persuading hime into another profession. Most modern commentaries speculated that this was merely a platonic relationship these words written by Cavalieri speak volumes for the bond, "I swear to return your love. Never have I loved a man more then you, never have I wished for a friend more than I wish for you." During his lifetime Michelangelo never married
His father soon caved in and allowed Michelangelo to be an apprentice at the age of 13 because of his persistent love for art and dedication to paitning. The process was very uncommon for the 16th century, normally the apprentice paid to learn from the master while learning and working odd labor in the master’s home, but a conflict forced him out after a year.
He was then invited to stay at the home of Lorenzo de’ Medici, the Magnificent. Where Michelangelo would continue his art studies as well as learn anatomy. He completed two medium sizes of sculptures when his was 16. Michelangelo would go on to complete 30 completed and famous sculptors and 7 paintings. Although there is no specific number, when Michelangelo died in 1556 he still left lots of sculptures and paintings unfinished.

Michelagelo Quotes:
A beautiful thing never gives so much pain as does failing to hear and see it.
A man paints with his brains and not with his hands.
Carving is easy, you just go down to the skin and stop.
Death and love are the two wings that bear the good man to heaven.
Even if you are divine, you don’t disdain male consorts.
Every beauty which is seen here by persons of perception resembles more than anything else that celestial source from which we all are come.
Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it.
Faith in oneself is the best and safest course.
From such a gentle thing, from such a fountain of all delight, my every pain is born.
Genius is eternal patience.
Good painting is the kind that looks like sculpture.
I am a poor man and of little worth, who is laboring in that art that God has given me in order to extend my life as long as possible.
I am still learning.
I cannot live under pressures from patrons, let alone paint.
I have never felt salvation in nature. I love cities above all.
I hope that I may always desire more than I can accomplish.
I live and love in God’s peculiar light.
I live in sin, to kill myself I live; no longer my life my own, but sin’s; my good is given to me by heaven, my evil by myself, by my free will, of which I am deprived.
I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.
If in my youth I had realized that the sustaining splendour of beauty of with which I was in love would one day flood back into my heart, there to ignite a flame that would torture me without end, how gladly would I have put out the light in my eyes.
