Gurgaon to Lansdowne
Lansdowne is a small beautiful hill station, situated in the Garhwal district of Uttaranchal. It’s at a height of 1705 meters above sea level and is preferred for its comfortable weather right throughout the year. Lansdowne was a popular hill resort for the British due to its climate and charming beauty and they built a cantonment here which is still preserved and maintained well.
Lansdowne was named after its founder Lord Lansdowne, the Viceroy of India during 1888 to 1894. It was the major base of independence movement activities during the pre-independence period. Currently, there is a command office of the Garhwal rifles if the Indian army in this town. The regimental Museum and the Garhwal Rifles Regimental War Memorial are the places of importance in Lansdowne.
There are several transport facilities to reach Lansdowne. If you are going from Delhi by road, then you need to take the Delhi- Meerut road to come to Kanvashram and change to Meerut-Nazibabad route. From there you need to go to Kodtwar which is 12kms from Nazibabad and then there is a road for Lansdowne. You can also find taxis from Gurgaon to Lansdowne as its just 290kms from Gurgaon and from Delhi it will take roughly 6 hours.
If you want to travel by train, then you can get on Mussorie express which leaves Delhi daily at 22.20 hrs. You can then get down at Kotdwar which is the nearest railway station to Lansdowne and hire a taxi to the hill station.
Lansdowne is known for its natural beauty and calm environment. Though well linked by roads and situated quite near several busy cities, the place is unique due to the sense of privacy and peace it offers. The town is surrounded by beautiful greeneries of thick oak woods and blue pine forests. Splendid views of snow covered forests and mountains, invigorating cool air and unpolluted clean fresh atmosphere make Lansdowne an ideal place for eco tourism.
The tourism in the town has a different face as it is not commercial tourism, but an eco friendly tourism of preserving and conserving nature.
Like most other hill stations, the weather is one of the main attractions of Lansdowne, particularly during the hot summers when tourists from different cities come here to escape the heat of the summer. Winters here are severe with temperatures falling below 0 Celsius during the peak of winter.
