Cooking Italian
It is no secret that the Italians love food. It has been the same for generations and I am sure that it will be just the same for the foreseeable future. Their passions are food, life, love, wine and women. For foreigners on the outside looking in, it may seem enviable. However as a British woman living with an Italian man, I know that their desire for culinary perfection can be very exhausting.
My husband loves cooking. He is passionate about it. Almost to the point of obsession. As we live in Markfield England, he sometimes cannot source some Italian products and it really upsets him. Don’t misunderstand me, I love to eat well and I love to drink fabulous wine. However I don’t get upset if the local deli has run out of parma ham, I just buy something else. Such a tragedy can put my husband in a bad mood for days, seriously.
I had started to think that there was something flawed in his personality. Maybe he had some kind of unhealthy obsession with food. Recently however I managed to catch some of the series called the “Greedy Italian”. Their excitement over a simple meal might look a little “OTT” to ordinary viewers but it really made me realise that this is just the Italian way.
My husband watched the program with me and I could literally see his mouth watering at all the delicious food they were eating. As such, I have promised to take him for a short mini break to Bologna, maybe we could even hire the same vintage used Alfa Romeo from Markfield featured in the program. My husband really does deserve a break as he stays home and looks after the family whilst I go out to work! Not sure that Carluccio and Gennaro would approve of this.
