A Steel toe boot for work and leisure should be an automatic choice.
A steel toe boot isn’t just safety footwear for a work place. Many people who value their foot safety and treat their feet with respect would wear steel toe boots much of the time.
Be honest, how often do you even consider your feet and what they have to put up with on a daily basis. We squeeze them into shoes that pinch and are too tight in the name of fashion and we rarely pamper them. The only time you would think of your feet is when you end up with an injury or you end up with fatigued aching feet from bad footwear. Foot injuries are common and protecting our feet should be something we do as a matter of course. You might think a steel toe boot is just for dangerous work places but it may be time for a rethink.
A lot of foot injuries could be avoided completely if people wore the right type of protective footwear. Of course, if your job demands a steel toe boot and protective footwear then you have no choice you have to wear them. One thing worth noting is if your workplace does have a policy on safety footwear and you suffer any kind of injury whilst not wearing regulation footwear, then you won’t have a legal leg (or foot!) to stand on. Improper footwear at work would mean you are prone to injury but your employer wouldn’t necessarily be prone to any claim from you because you haven’t followed rules or guidelines.
In the first instance if your workplace demands safety footwear then you need to follow that ruling to the letter. Let’s step out of the workplace for a moment and look around our homes. You may think a steel toe boot anywhere about the home is slight over protection. Do you do DIY projects? If so isn’t there risk of dropping heavy tools and items on your feet? What about yard work, do you love spending time tending to things out there? There are many dangers in our own back yards that would make it sensible to wear protective footwear out there. Even simply spending time in the great outdoors could land you with foot crushing injuries.
Foot injuries are rotten things, they take an age to heal and often don’t heal properly, leaving you with permanent damage. Bone breaks can lead to arthritis in later life and even bruising can take some time to improve enough for you to get any shoe on your foot. There is no doubt that prevention is better than cure when it comes to foot injuries and with a sturdy, well made steel toe boot you are giving your feet the best protection you can. Our feet seem to take a lot of punishment but when you consider how small some of the bones are and how complex the foot itself is it’s a wonder foot injuries aren’t more common.
A steel toe boot with additional safety features such as pierce resistant soles and built in protection is something that a first responder or military personnel would not leave home without. Such professionals don’t know what they will face on any given day and they have to be prepared for any eventuality. As someone who isn’t in a high risk or dangerous profession I wouldn’t have considered a steel toe boot, but I certainly would now. Foot protection in any situation whether home or work makes complete sense, and more of us should adopt the ‘protect our feet’ way of life.
