3D-Printing – Let’s Revolutionize the Print Media

All renowned industries use the techniques of 3D printingaccording totheir requirement. It is used in making the delicate jewelry designs and also in almost all the engineering methods. It has become famous in no time. The reasons behind its fame are its cost effectiveness, ease of use and fast results. Overhanging is another facility provided by it. Prime importance is given to this trait of printing technique.

Many methods are available for 3D printing in the market. Industries chose one or two of these methods depending upon the need of their production. The digital light processing (DPL) is one of the most commonly used processes. In this technique, a vat of liquid polymer is placed in face to the light with the help of the DPL projector. The conditions for the safelight are maintained while this process is done. After coming in contact with the light, the polymer becomes hard and tough. This process is repeated until the model is built. After the completion of this first step, the next step is of operation of liquid polymer. The extra liquid polymer is removed from the surface. When this is done, the final solid model is left behind. This is basically the desired finished product of 3D printing technique.

There are many examples to explain this DLP process. The ZBuilder Ultra is an example of the DPL rapid prototype system. This is the best example to explain this process. The subject under goes two steps and the final product is developed. This product is the finest and close to perfection. Basically, it is the traditional rapid prototyping. It is a unique method. It has some drawbacks but its advantages supersede its disadvantages. There are very few chances of error in this technique. Amongst all the techniques used for the printing process, this is considered the easiest.

Another latest technique for the print media in the regular bed is selective fusing. The fused media serves to support the overhangs and the thin walls in part which is produced during the process. The most interesting thing about this type of printing is that there is no need of the auxiliary support for the item. There is no need of temporary attachment while doing this process. This technique uses laser. The laser beams pass through the material and convert it into solid. There are few suitable examples to explain this technique. Direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) is included in them. The difference is that the metal is used as a subject in this process.

It is thought that in the 3D print process, ultra small feature are used by the 3D micro fabrication system of the polymerization. This is a special type of polymerization known as 2-photon polymerization. This is an advance technique in which gel is used in the block to give the item, final shape. The laser beams fall on this gel and form the solid subject. The nonlinear nature of photoexitation is used in this technique. The extra gel is removed by washing the final item.
