These were given to the deities for helping the army emerge victorious in the war. In fact the very term trophy comes from the Greek word ‘tropaion’ which means ‘defeat’.
Ancient Romans had a different method of raising trophies to their successes. They used tall pillars and columns which would hold the sculpted trophy high up for the entire world to witness and admire. In later years, the kings and monarchs started distributing chalices to the best performing sportsmen in the kingdom.
Designing a trophy is generally a complicated process. Like any other artistic task, it entails a lot of market study, needs assessment and detailed study of materials which can be used.
