Experts Explain Why An Ice Bath Gives Joint Pain Relief
Joint pain relief is not the same for all people. In fact, if you were the type that could sit in a bathtub full of ice water for 5 minutes a day, you probably wouldn’t have joint pain at all! It’s true – I watched it on a medical show just the other day and I have to say, I was amazed that they guy actually filled the tub up with ice. He says it’s his favorite joint pain treatment!
Now, if you have decided to give it a try, there are a few things you need to be aware of to do it right. Fill your bathtub up with cold water, and then dump a few buckets of ice on top of that. Burr! Keep your head, fingers and toes out of the water as these are the areas that will get the coldest. Stay in the tub for 5 minutes if you can.
The reason that this is such a good joint pain reliever is that it reduces inflammation all over the body. And remember, it’s only for five minutes. That being said, I can’t vouch for this system because I haven’t tried it, but I did say that I saw it on a very popular medical show.
Myself, I would rather concentrate the ice on the area of concern, but then again, I only have joint pain on my fingers. Much easier to chill than freezing my entire body! I guess it’s not the same if my hands are cold all the time anyway; this is actually detrimental and very annoying because it causes me to NOT want to move my fingers. An ice bath differs in that it’s only for 5 minutes. It kind of shocks the system into behaving for awhile.
You can try this joint pain reliever at your own risk. The first time though, it might be a good idea to have someone watching over you. You just never know how your body will respond to being in ice water — even for a short period of time.
I guess, even though I have a swimming pool full of freezing water available right now, I’m going to stick with joint pain supplements to help with my pain relief. They have been beneficial to me this far, and I’m hoping that with continued use, I will find joint pain relief without having to take a freezing cold bath. After all, I much prefer the hot tub!
