One Million Ford Fiestas Sold

Ford is celebrating one million Ford Fiesta units of the current model to be sold. That’s 100,000 units of the new and current Ford Fiesta to be sold in Europe. The Fiesta has always been a popular model in Europe, especially the UK. It has only taken 28 months for the new Ford Fiesta to reach the 1 million unit milestone.

Almost a quarter of that million were sold in the UK, 239,742 new Fiesta models have been sold in the UK since its launch 28 months ago. The introduction of the new Fiesta in 2008 marked a new era in small car design, functionality and performance. The Fiesta has been available in three and five door body styles as well as fuel efficient engines. In January 2009, only a few months after its launch it became the bestselling car in the UK. Since then it has been regularly challenging its older sibling, the Ford focus for the top UK sales position.

The Fiesta is produced at Ford’s state of the art car plant in Cologne, Germany and Valencia, Spain. It has become the most successful European-made small car sold in Europe ever, with cumulative sales totalling 14 million since the car was first launched in 1976.

The Ford Fiesta in Wigan was also the first car in its segment to achieve top crash test ratings in each of the world’s largest auto markets that perform safety testing – Europe, the U.S. and China. Ford’s global safety engineers combined their efforts to ensure the Fiesta would be capable of meeting the most stringent crash protection requirements in any region of the world.
