2011 Ford Ranger

The 2011 Ford Ranger was unveiled at the Australian International Motor Show last year. It shares many of its components with the Mazda BT-50. The Ranger is a 1 ton pick-up truck classed as a commercial vehicle; it is produced in Australia by Ford’s Australian arm.

The new Ford Ranger has been designed and built to appeal to fleet customers, small businesses and the rugged outdoor leisure market. Releasing any car during a recession is risky so initial sales of the Ranger may not meet Ford’ expectations, but saying that it is a work horse and any business doing well will be a potential customer.

The 2011 Ranger is a vast improvement on the outgoing model, it has been revamped inside and out. It is available in three different body styles and can now seat five people comfortably. Ford are offering the Ranger with the choice of the 2.5 and 3.0-litre TDCi turbo diesel engines.

Let’s have a look at the available body styles and configurations:

• The entry level model is the Single Cab version which comes complete with the 2.5-litre engine, a five-speed manual box and a choice of either two or four-wheel-drive.
• The SUPER Cab 2.5-litre is next in the model range and features four-wheel-drive, a five-speed manual gearbox and is available in four trims, XL, XLT, Thunder and Wildtrak.
• The Double Cab is the range-topper and it features a choice of both 2.5 and 3.0-litre power plants. It also offers the choice of an automatic gearbox.
The four-door version seats five adults in comfort and allows easy access to the cabin. A Chassis Cab version with a tipper is also available.
