Vikram Seth

Vikram Seth was born in India, however like many of his contemporaries he went to study in England. He graduated from Oxford, realizing he was actually fascinated by poetry and where he has made the untraditional decision to learn Chinese. Seth wrote several volumes of poetry, but what really brought favorable comments about his writing were actually the interesting structured novels of his. The specific style was borrowed by the famous Aleksandr Pushkin’s Eugene Onegin. Such novel of his now is used as script for an Opera piece in two acts, called Golden Gate.
The Suitable Boy novel brought him great recognition, and the work itself was considerable – it amounted to 1474 pages piece. Regardless of the lengthy story it was much liked. It took Seth a decade to finish the book, even though the initial project was of a short story. The plot dealt with one mother’s attempts to find the most appropriate husband for her daughter as a partner in life. In 2009 the author promised a sequel of the book, titled A Suitable Girl.
In 2005 was published Seth’s most recent novel Two Lives, which was to a great extend autobiographical. It described the lives of his aunt and uncle in 1930’s in Germany.
Quite different are the interests of this Indian author. He plays Indian flute and the cello. Coincidence or not Seth explains that in London he knows more musicians than writers.
