What You Need When You Need It at Low Prices
Gardening to grow your own food is once again gaining in popularity after several decades where all everyone wanted to eat was the processed foods that were easy to fix. The only real problem with these foods is that they are all completely devoid of any real nutrition, a fact that many people are now beginning to realize and as such they are now becoming very interested in ways to provide their families with a much healthier diet.
At the start this desire to feed our families a much healthier diet led us to demand better produce, including organics from our local grocery stores. There were two problems with this, first the cost was often far more than the average family could even come close to being able to afford. Secondly, no matter where you live there are going to be some fresh fruits and vegetables you are not going to be able to get.
Enter the return of the garden, you will find that more people are turning sections of their yards into gardens, building rooftop gardens in the cities and turning vacant lots in viable miniature vegetable farms. However, if you live in area where the laws or circumstances simply do not make it possible for you to dig or build an outside garden, there is no reason that you should not be able to do a little gardening inside your home.
How can you possibly grow fruits and vegetables inside your home in sufficient quantities to actually feed your family? While you can’t grow the same quantities as you would be able to if you had an outside garden, you will find that with hydroponics, you can grow a decent crop of many of the same things and at least use what you can grow to supplement the foods you are buying from your local grocery store.
Most of us have at least hear the term hydroponics before, but other than knowing that it has something to do with water and grow lights, most of us have no idea what it really is. While this type of gardening is considered soilless as the roots of all of your plants will be suspended in water, the process is far more complex and involves an array of sophisticated equipment.
Unless you know where to buy the equipment you are going to need, you can end up spending fortune on the filters, pumps, lines and grow lights you are going to need to build your indoor garden. You might be growing your food in water, but as you will find out when you start doing your research, you will find out that this is no ordinary water. It is a nutrient rich liquid that has to be more carefully maintained than any water you have ever dealt with.
Not only are you going to have to provide a carefully pH balanced, nutrient rich water supply for your indoor garden to grow in, you are going to have to provide the right level of light. Simply screwing in few extra 100 watt light bulbs or buying a single fluorescent white light fixture is not going to get the job done as these lights do not produce the proper spectrum of light that the sun normally supplies.
You are going to have to invest in a series of specialized grow lights. You will find that there are numerous styles to choose from. These lights put out the right light and a fair amount of heat and you will need to put them on a timer to simulate the number of hours of sunlight every day. With a little research you can find lights that do the same job while producing less heat and using less electricity.
The hardest part of setting up your indoor hydroponic garden is trying to find one supply house that is going to have everything that you are going to need and have it all at prices that won’t make going to the grocery store seem like a better idea. You do have to remember that most of the equipment you buy is going to last you for many years and endless harvest.
