Tourism Management Courses to Give you the Edge
Building a career in the travel and hospitality sector means building an enviable set of skills and knowledge to give you the best chance of working in the sector of your choice. There are so many different strands to the industry that a constant quest for knowledge could be the most important trait to have in your armoury.
Training in specific parts of the industry, such as ski courses, or building more rounded and professional skills through, for example, tourism management courses, is now easy to access, so there is no reason to stand still in the hospitality industry when gaining new skills is so easy.
The real game-changer in terms of career development has come in the form of e-learning, which makes valuable expert knowledge and training in sector-specific skills easy to access for anyone who has the time and the will to learn. E-learning makes it simple to fit training round existing employment and enables students to progress at their own pace and make very specific choices about the skills and knowledge they wish to add to their CV.
The sheer diversity of e-learning on offer in the travel and hospitality sector is vast. To find out just how wide the range of courses is, we looked at one of the market leading travel and tourism e-learning providers – Online Travel Training (OTT) – and selected specific sectors to see how many different learning products were on offer. The results were impressive.
The first category we examined was ski courses. We found everything from an introduction to skiing from Inghams Ski, one of the UK’s largest independent ski tour operators, to courses from the Tourist Boards of Andorra and South Tyrol, which train students in the variety of holiday opportunities in the many destinations in those regions. There is also an e-learning course from Graubünden, which is Switzerland’s top holiday destination and home to world-famous ski resorts like Klosters and St. Moritz. In a few short weeks it is possible to become an expert in organising ski tours with the UK’s leading companies and a goldmine of knowledge about the best skiing destinations.
The other area we looked into was tourism management courses. Building the right blend set of skills for tourism management requires a carefully thought out programme of development, given the range of sectors that can be covered. Whether it is business travel, corporate social responsibility or any other element of the industry, there are tourism management courses that cover the specifics. Furthermore, they are backed by the industry’s leading associations and operators, and are easy to find among the huge range of e-learning programmes on the site.
We looked only at ski courses and tourism management courses, but there is so much more to be found on the e-learning sites dedicated to the travel and tourism sector. Learn in your own time, at your own speed, and with the support of expert advice by embracing e-learning as the way to build your career.
