VRLA Battery – Different from Standard Lead Acid Battery
Valve regulated lead acid batteries, short for VRLA battery, depend on security valve controls venting which is one-way venting, which don’t need any maintenance in use. For the recent years, because of its small volume, light weight, good sealing, no leakage, no pollution, good high rate discharges, maintenance free, and so on features, VRLA batteries are widely used by many professional department of electric power system.
VRLA battery is commonly further classified as AGM battery and GEL battery. While the AGM and gel battery designs share many of the same components, such as containers, pressure relief valves and plates, they have different separator systems and electrolyte immobilization systems which result in significantly different high rate performance, heat dissipation and cycle life characteristics.
The AGM battery is different from other lead-acid batteries because it uses a glass mat separator to maintain its position in electrolytes. These rugs can be used for the AGM with the highest frequency of acid build up there and never paida drop. There, in 1980 by Concorde Aircraft Battery was developed was their intention, a warm climate, vibration-proof chemical alternative to expensive batteries of their current technology used to build fighter planes. Today, the general assembly is used in many motorcycles and cars. They are also often in remote sensing and cold environments because of their lack of electrolytes have never attack or use crack.
AGM batteries are just like flooded lead acid batteries, except the electrolyte is being held in the glass mats, as opposed to freely flooding the plates. Very thin glass fibers are woven into a mat to increase surface area enough to hold sufficient electrolyte on the cells for their lifetime. The fibers that comprise the fine glass fibers glass mat do not absorb nor are affected by the acidic electrolyte they reside in. These mats are wrung out 2-5% after being soaked in acids, prior to manufacture completion and sealing. The AGM battery can now accumulate more acid than is available, and never spill a drop.
The plates in an AGM battery may be any shape. Some are flat, others are bent or wound. AGM batteries, both deep cycle and starting, are built in a rectangular case to BCI battery code specifications. Optima Battery builds a patented cylindrical AGM series of batteries that are fashioned to fit the same BCI battery size specifications as any other battery.
Finally, the gel battery, sometimes known as gel-cellunique untilization gelified electrolyte. The gel is mixed with sulfuric acid made with silica fume, which is becoming a mass of gel property. The gel cells are widely used in electric wheelchairs almost because of their large capacity deep-cycle exit and low acidity. Both types of VRLA batteries are widely used in aerobatic aircraft because of their ability to respond to the various altitudes and high temperature used.
VRLA battery uses the different electrolyte and maintenance free which makes it different from the standard lead acid battery. If you want to read more about VRLA or lead acid battery, please visit http://www.leoch.com
