Marvellous Attractions of Goa Holidays

Goa needs no introduction. Perhaps the most popular travel destination in India, Goa is the inevitable converging spot for millions of Britons and other travellers from different parts of the globe. The availability of a vast range of cheap as well as luxury hotels in Goa makes the destination suitable for travellers of all means. Get familiar with some of the most potent Goan charms.

Polem Beach

Visitors looking for a fairly virginal beach during their holidays in Goa should definitely try out the Polem Beach. Somehow, the fingers of tourist development have still not firmly grasped the Polem Beach and thus the local character remains strong. Besides the occasional fishermen and other wanderers, crabs and seabirds are the only other living creatures that one gets to witness here. Offering fine views of rocky islands, the beach is perfect for nice quiet strolls and seaside picnics. There is a small restaurant here serving fresh seafood and chilled beer.

Goa State Museum

The large Goa State Museum is crammed full of visual treats. Two of the most popular exhibits here are the ornately carved table used in the Goa Inquisition and a pair of antique rotary lottery machines. No less interesting are the Hindu and Jain sculptures, paintings from almost all parts of India, and Christian art. Nature enthusiasts should check out the wildlife conservation gallery here.

Basilica of Bom Jesus

Well known across the Roman Catholic world, the Basilica of Bom Jesus is the final resting place of the legendary St Francis Xavier who went about the Herculean task of propagating Christianity amongst Portuguese subjects in the East. The tomb is a three-tiered marble structure and a silver casket has been used for housing the saint’s mortal remains. While the altars are richly gilded, the entire interior of the church is pretty simple in design.

Tropical Spice Farm

The Tropical Spice Farm remains one of the top spice plantations in Goa. The tour of this plantation lasts for about an hour’s time and ends with a scrumptious buffet lunch on banana leaves. One can also try out the fun filled elephant rides.

Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary

Home to exotic jungle denizens like spotted deer and other deer species, mountain ox and leopards, the Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary makes for a delightful forest getaway on one’s Goa Holidays. The jungle magic is best felt here during an early morning trip. Marked trails are available for taking hikes and the two watchtowers provide highest prospects for wildlife viewing. Some of the fairly sure to be spotted forest residents are monkeys, colourful plumed birds, and snakes.

Sé de Santa Catarina

Supposedly Old Goa’s oldest church, Sé de Santa Catarina was built way back in the 16th century. The building has a Portuguese-Gothic style with a Corinthian interior and a Tuscan exterior. The main altar is dedicated to St Catherine of Alexandria. Paintings have been put up on different sides of the altar showcasing different scenes from the saint’s life. Don’t miss the Golden Bell when you visit the Sé de Santa Catarina.

Anjuna Beach

A once upon a time exclusive hippy hangout place, the Anjuna Beach has today become one of the most frequented and well known beaches in Goa. The beach is easily accessible from many of the famous Goa hotels and is as exciting during the day as it is during the night. In fact, the night parties here at discotheques like Curlies and Paradiso are hair raising enough to wake the dead. The Anjuna is one of those few beaches, where shacks are available across the night. A top Anjunja Beach attraction is the flea market held on Wednesdays.
