Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away!

I have just been on the most amazing “away day” with work and really had to share it with someone. It wasn’t really an away day, more of an away week! It was more than fantastic, it was exhilarating.

When it was first announced that we were going to sail from North Wales to Dublin I really wanted to announce that I had a very important wedding that weekend and couldn’t make it. I am not very sporty and in all honesty I have a fear of water. Not a great combination.

Realising that I couldn’t really get out of the adventure I decided to take a “musn’t grumble” approach and prepare for a grueling week ahead. When I pulled my New Vauxhall Corsa Dundonald car into the small harbour from where we were sailing I had butterflies in my stomach and generally felt sick. The fear of what awaited me was all to much.

We were taken down to our yacht and I must add that I was very impressed. It was brand new and had three well sized cabins on board, plus toilet and shower. The kitchen was a little cramped but we could manage. Our skipper ran through some safety procedures and then we set sail.

The 8 hour sailing was a learning curve. We were taught about the ropes, how to make knots and what to do if a man fell overboard. It was very exciting. The weather was great and we even sailed through a gale force 8 which makes a very interesting story. This is the most fun I have had in a long time and I can’t wait to give it another go.
