Chicagoland furniture by Keno Bros. will be heirlooms of tomorrow
I have a confession to make. For years now, one of my favorite shows to watch on television has been the PBS series Antiques Roadshow. Forget the Real Housewives, I find entertainment in local antique owners bringing in items from around their homes to be appraised by the show’s experts. It’s always great to see someone realize they have a valuable keepsake on their hands!
Two of my favorite hosts were brothers Leslie and Leigh Keno. More than just brothers, Leslie and Leigh are identical twins, authors, antique experts, and television hosts. In addition to appearing as furniture appraisers on Roadshow, they have hosted the WGBH series Find! since 2003, and have been hosts of the internet show Collect This! with the Keno Brothers on MSN’s Tech & Gadgets guide site since 2008. Additionally, in 2000 they co-authored a book on antique furniture called Hidden Treasures: Searching for Masterpieces of American Furniture.
Now they are ready to expand their resume and are entering the realm of furniture design! Their incredible collection, appropriately dubbed Keno Bros., is now featured at the Chicagoland furniture leader Walter E. Smithe.
The Keno Bros collection is driven by their love for antiques as well as their passion for sculpture, furniture, and rare objects. The pair explains that their vision was to create furnishings that will become the classics of tomorrow and I can say with firm confidence that they have done it! Whether you’re decorating a home or office, furniture from the Keno Bros. collection will surely complete the look of the room.
One of my favorite pieces from the collection is the Skyscraper Showcase. The brothers explain that this piece was inspired by the towering skyscrapers of Manhattan. Since I love Chicago, I can’t help but see the Sears Tower (now Willis Tower) in this piece. The truly beautiful piece brings back such great memories for me, such as of the first time I visited the tower with my parents. Block anegre veneers encase beautiful tiger maple, allowing any object that fills the frames to be shown to its very best advantage. Whether you want to display picture frames or your favorite trinkets, this piece will get the job done and can be a perfect addition to your living room or office furniture. The shelves also function as perfect room dividers since the reverse side is veneered in richly figured anegre!
Another great piece from the Keno Bros. is the sampler cocktail table. The brothers really wanted to put an emphasis on wood with this piece. Since all wood is unique, it’s only fitting that this piece would be unique also. They used fourteen samples of the most gorgeous woods in the world, and as a result, the table transforms in front of you as you look at it from different angles.
The brothers’ collection has so much more to offer in addition to these two pieces and altogether it is truly remarkable. The Keno Bros. have used their antique furniture expertise to design a beautiful line and Theodore Alexander, one of the leading manufacturers of fine furniture, executed everything perfectly.
If you’re looking for furniture that’s beauty and quality through and through, then I strongly recommend the Keno Bros. collection, available at the Chicagoland furniture store, Walter E. Smithe. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for this brand!
