First US built Japanese car

The Honda Accord was introduced by the Japanese car manufacturer in 1976, it is a mid size family car or even a 4 door executive saloon. Honda sell the Accord in most of the markets they are in, it is almost their Global model.

In 1982 Honda did something quite different at the time, it decided to produce the new Honda Accord in America rather than at its plant Sayama, Japan. The American plant was in Marysville, Ohio at Honda’s Marysville Auto Plant. Since 1982 the Accord has been or still is being produced in Nelson, New Zealand, Swindon, England, Guangzhou, China and Ayutthaya, Thailand.

The eight generation and current model Accord went on sale in 2008. It is available as a four door saloon and a 5 door estate. Engine options in the Accord are the 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre i-VTEC petrol engines, as well as the 2.2-litre i-DTEC diesel engine. All the Honda engines in the Accord come with a 6-speed manual transmission, while the petrol engines get in addition to that a 5-speed automatic transmission.

Honda judged that most of the Accord drivers will be long distance motorway cruisers hence; they put an emphasis on comfort rather than stiff suspension settings. Which works beautifully on the motorways but, around town it can seem a little fidgety and “edgy”. Like most modern Hondas the Accord has electric power steering so is nimble and the artificial weight does come alive when you speed up and do sharp turns.

As you would expect from a Honda the engines and gearboxes are very smooth and quiet. Inside the cabin there is hardly any audible engine or wind noise.
