From Vancouver Down The Oregon Coast To Napa Trip

Spent a great trip going down the Oregon Coast to Napa and Sonoma Valleys, and back again once again up the Oregon Coast – great! It was like a honeymoon!

We drove from Vancouver, Canada down by means of Chuckanut Drive, Widbey Island and down to Portland – about to a location called Seaside, Oregon – stayed at a fantastic motel called Ebb Tide correct on the seashore there – woke up and strolled the seashore – awesome 500 ft deep beaches, with practically no person on them

Stopped in at the Sea Lion Caves, and the Devil’s Churn – great spot to observe waves catapaulting in the air as they hit enormous rocks – the Oregon Coast goes from deep deep seashores to headlands with huge waves crashing, to sand dunes with grass and miles of sand inland – its 400 miles of stunning surroundings each and every mile!

Went for oysters at Winchester Bay – they have a triangle in the river mouth wherever they “make” oysters, and then they are taken to the spot exactly where we went, wherever they arrive in on a conveyor belt, and the woman shucks them and hands them to you – it couldn’t get any fresher! I liked it so a lot I went back again later on on in the trip as nicely.

My impression of California was 6 lane expressways, so I was amazed to generate a stretch of street that was the windiest, lonliest, craziest that I’ve ever driven – my girlfriend came THIS Shut to throwing up! I went for a stretch of more than thirty minutes exactly where my fingers did not quit shifting, turning, turning, back again the other way, up about a curve, back again the other way, and so on. Came out on the way to Fort Bragg, Mendocino Coast as it obtained dark – very happy to quit driving!

The up coming day we drove into an location called the Anderson Valley – and at a Mexican food spot, noticed that there was a 3 winery tasting store next door. We had driven by wineries, but I had in no way heard of them, so assumed they were little potatoes, and we’re headed for Sonoma/Napa anyways. The woman at the tasting retailer says “You’re into wines and you’ve just driven through the Anderson Valley? Go back again 20 miles and go right here, right here and right here!” On top of the 3 wineries we sampled at her retailer, we went back again to GoldenEye – which is Duckhorn’s Pinot Noir label (who realized?) and went to Roederer – which tends to make Cristal Champagne – and also a white wine maker referred to as Navarro – kind of a US Blue Mountain, where they only sell to eating places, but have won all sorts of awards – ended up with a Chardonnay and a Gewurtztraminer from there – the woman had told us about camping down the road, so we stayed there in awesome ninety degree warmth in the midst of the trees. The winding road I talked about previously is the one particular that will take you by way of all the Redwoods, btw, and we camped in the place wherever the largest a single of them all is. I have a pic of a stump, that is way increased than my girlfriend, standing up!

Carried on down to Santa Rosa, the starting of the Sonoma Valley – actually we passed all types of Russian River wineries on the freeway, but wished to get to Sonoma. Went to St. Francis – bought some Pinot Noir, also Kenwood – bought a bottle of Cab – and what sells in Canada for fifty-sixty bucks is about 15-twenty bucks in US – great selling prices! Also visited Benziger, but didn’t get to do their renowned tour – not adequate time! Went to B. R. Cohn – obtained a wonderful pic in front of all the Doobie Brothers gold albums – he manages them as well.

Previous minute dash up the Napa Valley to consider and locate Caymus, really disappointed when we could not, and it was five o’clock – most wineries are closed by then – on a whim I drove previous Freemark Abbey – open until 6!

Got some excellent glasses, a gun metal grey wine opener and a bit of a steal – they had discovered 300 situations of a 1988 Sycamore – which is offered there for $115, most likely $400 in Canada – they were blowing it out for $twenty a bottle – and because we could provide back two every – we now have 4 1988 Freemark Abbey Sycamore bottles in our cellar! Fantastic! Now I just have to wait for the events to consume them at – but they are soooooo prepared to be drunk NOW!!!!! – I was joking that they really should greatest be drunk in the parking great deal!

Camped at a place named Berryessa Lake, down another wierd undisturbed road in which no one else was, and at the camp ground, there was us, and yet another tent – that is it! We had a lovely night, sipping wonderful wine by the fire at the edge of the lake, with no person else around! Nutty! This is California???? Home of 25 million individuals?? LOL The up coming day it was 101 degrees when we drove by way of Chico – roasting!

Stopped in to Medford, Oregon, and a fellow stated, go into city and style the beer – located this Extremely neighborhood pub under the freeway, Siskiyou Brew Pub, andsampled their neighborhood beer – as well as Dead Man Ale – Rogue Beer – received 2 fantastic skull and crossbones beer eyeglasses from there!

Produced it back again to Seaside, top rated of the Oregon Coast, and stayed in an oceanfront area – for a dollar more! – seeking out on dunes, ocean, pits dug for viewing fireworks, and we drank fantastic wines ( had to get rid of every thing but the Freemark Abbey bottles!) and watched people light fires, and set off fireworks – gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous.

The final day it commenced raining as we raced house – the only issue we missed performing was we by no means received to go dune buggy riding in the Oregon dunes – they never let you go alone any a lot more – which was the funnest point last time – but they do teams tours in different sized autos, or ATVs, but there was waaaaay too long of a wait – subsequent time!
