Mini DV Tapes Still in High Demand
Mini DV tapes are still in high demand. Not all of the market has moved to Flash media and Hard Drives, mostly due to the software complications that may arise from using cameras with a hard drive. Therefore the industry standard remains with Mini DV tape as being the preference for all users.
The most popular of the brands for Mini DV tapes feature the Premium DVM60PRR line from Sony. Each tape gives you 60 minutes of premium digital video. This tape features a metal evaporated tape, with a diamond-like carbon coating protective layer. This improves durability and helps prevent shedding and dropout. This technology is not exclusive to Sony however, as Panasonic brand tapes also have similar protection for their tapes.
Panasonic makes their AY-DVM63PQUS which is an advanced metal-evaporation technology achieves excellent characteristics, high durability and optimal tape-to-head contact. It comes in a 2 way soft case made of soft material that won’t break if dropped. The 2-way lid construction lets you easily extract the tape with one hand, perfect for multiple tape users. The precision engineered Mini DV cassette shell is molded of ABS resin, which prevents warping and provides tough impact resistance and durability. The anti-static cassette lid treatment repels dust, debris, and contaminants, minimizing dropouts. The sliding lock mechanism prevents against accidental erasure of recordings. All of these features of course are standard and make an excellent addition to the fine tapes from both Panasonic and Sony.
The third type of Mini DV is offered by TDK which makes their DVM60 or part number 37140 Mini DV tapes capture your moments with vivid color with clear sound and long-lasting images. Each TDK DVC tape comes with its own ultra-durable carrying case. Each carrying case includes an insert card and blank labels. This tape can capture approximately 60 minutes of video with audio in a camcorder’s standard play (SP) mode, or up to 90 minutes in long play (LP) mode.
