Light bars are not only used for emergency vehicles, they may have other uses too. Motorcyclists, for example, are particularly vulnerable to “not being seen” and many an accident has occurred because the motorist doesn’t see a motorcycle in time. Nothing attracts attention as effectively as a shining light. Even in daylight a burning light will draw ones glances. “Light emitting diode” were invented over 100 years ago. They are a semi-conductor and the light is actually given off by electron passing through a “gate” which allows the current to only go in a single direction. The luminescence is not actually the reason for using a diode but this by-product has become so useful that they are now used for many of their very useful properties. Firstly the technology has improved so that their light is very bright. Secondly they produce no heat. Incandescent lights give off heat as the light is produced by the glowing of a high resistance filament heating up. This heat is a waste and a heavy user of current. Thirdly they use a lot less current than the equivalent Incandescent lights would. Fourthly they are far more reliable. Leds typically can last over 25,000 hours and are not damaged by being constantly switched off and on. So Led mini lightbars mounted on motorcycles are far more useful than any other form of light could be for drawing attention because LEDs are visible even in bright daylight.
Led mini lightbars can of course be purchase and deployed on any other vehicle which periodically needs to advertise its presence. Temporary use engineering vehicles are examples. Used for normal road use they may not need a permanent lightbar attached but need one on occasion. The other major uses for Led mini lightbars are on stealth or unmarked patrol vehicles. Police on a stakeout or traffic control vehicles patrolling in the normal course of events don’t really want to draw attention to them. But if they have a permanent lightbar attached to their roof they would be unable to conceal themselves.

Thus in the space of seconds the unmarked vehicle can be in hot pursuit of a suspect’s vehicle a with lights blazing and siren sounding so no other road user can be in doubt as to their presence and will hopefully clear the path of the chasing auto.
