What touristic areas to choose in Rome?
I received more often lately, questions about accommodation in Rome.
The city on the banks of the Tiber, a “mecca” for tourists from everywhere, has a reputation for being amongst the most economical options. Like most European capitals that draw tourists like a magnet, and Rome can be a distraction not exactly cheap.
Naturally, during the summer months you will hardly find room in the central areas of the city, and some much less expensive. The best times to visit are spring and fall of Rome, not only in terms of price but also the climate. In winter, although sometimes the wind blows, you should not afraid of snow and ice. However, if you want to spend your holidays in Rome (especially Easter, Christmas and New Year), you can delete the word “cheat” in their vocabulary, because prices exploding, pure and simple – the principle of supply and demand. And demand is invariably greater than the supply …
The first advice that I have is to make your reservation as far in advance to find something really good, both in terms of conditions and in terms of price. This goes for any large city in Europe and especially for the season (although we have found difficult even in the so-called off-season!). Use a site like booking the reservation – an appreciated feature is that some sites allow you to cancel without any penalty fee, it’s all good conditions to read first! We, for example, when I booked a hostel in Austria, I discovered only after I received confirmation that, in addition to room rate is also paid 30 euros for final cleaning, whether standing a day or 10! And that was the small print somewhere at the bottom. I canceled immediately, of course.
The second trip is to consult an advisor, to take a look and review sites on the booking but do not be discouraged from the first or take-a-mot mot everything written there. We were initially scared when I started reading about all the accommodation in Rome and I do not mean just the B & B. People tend to exaggerate the positive and negative side and, after each soul!
Finally use your confidence to see how google maps showing street and sometimes even buildings! November so I did and I was sure that the surroundings are ok, moreover, we find ourselves was easy to address!
Cheap food in Rome
Just think of Italian food will make you only dream of a pizza baked in a steaming plate of pasta at a tiramisu that melts in your mouth, or a cappuccino with thick collar of foam? True, you will find everywhere, but that does not mean they are inexpensive. Elegant terraces of the Colosseum or the Pantheon are definitely not on the list of economic options.
If you want to spare the budget, avoid tourist places where prices are “rounded” properly. If you want a new experience, buy the Piazza Campo Dei Fiori, which is full of fruits and vegetables, “raw material” for a picnic or a large sandwich with mozzarella, prosciutto, lettuce and tomato. And you can add a bottle of wine for a bit of pampering, but also some juicy fruit. Some places are ideal for a picnic Palatine Hill, where you can have lunch among the ruins dating back thousands of years (it certainly is an experience that is definitely worth trying!) And Borghese Gardens.
It would be a shame not to try and a typical Italian sandwich, made on the grill, panino (panini, plural), which is served in specific places, called paninoteca. It can also eat hot and cold but at the package. The most popular are panino caprese with mozzarella slices, cherry tomatoes, fresh basil and olive oil, and the smoked ham (prosciutto) and pesto.
