A sneak peek into the socio-cultural fabric of India through a uniquely crafted Educational Tour
16th June 2011: Akzo Nobel, a Dutch multinational for decorative paints and speciality chemicals wanted its high potential employees to experience the “real” India through the uniquely crafted educational tour.
The mandate was to explore four major cities – Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Ahmedabad – and the growth engine of Indian economy through different lens. The group of 40 employees was divided into 20 groups having 2 employees each. These 20 groups were further divided in four clusters with five groups in each cluster. Each cluster arrived at one of the four identified cities simultaneously. In order to facilitate maximum learning in the shortest possible time, 20 different itineraries were planned – one for each group. The route plan was customized for each group of two employees to permeate the maximum experience.
The groups helped clean the river Yamuna in Delhi, washed clothes at Mumbai’s “dhobi ghaat”, experienced the traditional and modern colleges in Kolkata and interacted the youth from the slums undergoing vocational training in Ahmedabad.
While different groups were getting the sneak peek into “the slice of life” of the people that essentially make India, Indebo India’s team was working behind the scenes to ensure that various activities running in parallel should be impeccable.
How did the team of Indebo execute such an operationally challenging task?
From one of the experienced Indebo team, one team member was appointed as the overall project coordinator. Under this person, four city level coordinators were appointed for successfully executing the logistics and operational tasks. The city level coordinators were shouldered upon the responsibility of interacting with the ground handling staff with each group and the overall project coordinator. The seamless connect among the team, experience of the team members and meticulous micro-level planning for each activity resulted into the grand success of this uniquely crafted Educational Tour.
