Besides the first aid kit, an emergency kit with signaling apparatus, a compass, a fire starter and even a laptop can become handy when on an outing.Keep your matches,lighters and other things in a waterproof container or even a sealed plastic bag that can act in place of a waterproof container.
Some other safety tips that need to be observed:
Make sure that you are not walking around without safety shoes. The safety shoes need to compromise with the purpose and environment that greets you.
An extra set of dry cloths, a jacket of a kind can be welcome additions particularly in windy and hilly surroundings.
Carry a flash torch with new batteries or one that can be hand cranked to charge.
Do not wander too far from the camp nor walk around alone.
