Baseball Safety Rules that Should Always be Followed

Baseball isn’t typically considered a dangerous sport like football but there are still some safety concerns to be aware of. Player collisions, ball injuries, and bat injuries are among some of the most common baseball injuries. Here you’ll be given some helpful information and safety guidelines for staying safe in baseball.

Sometimes players can be much safer simply by talking to each other at crucial times. One time when communication is essential is when fielders are going after a ball. When fielders are looking upwards and not at each other, they can collide if one doesn’t call out, “Mine!” The only problem that can occur then is if two fielders simultaneously call for a ball, but this is rare, and the important thing is that players must always say something so others know where they are.

There should be a preset plan where players know exactly which areas are covered by which fielders to avoid problems. One thing all fielders must learn to do is pay attention to where others in the field are, even when they’re focused on catching a ball.

The bases in this game are one danger we don’t always consider dangerous but they are. If a player slides into a stationary base too hard it’s pretty easy to injure a leg or foot. Your headfirst sliders can even injure their head, hand or arm with these bases. A solution to this problem is using a breakaway base which comes apart when the player slides into it. There’s no worries of it “popping” unexpectedly during normal play conditions. If they are not already on board with these breakaway bases you need to be suggesting that they board the train. Teach your players proper methods for sliding into bases and what to look for when sliding into a stationary base.

Footwear is critical in all sports, baseball included, so it’s important for players to wear the right type of shoes.

Players should have cleated baseball shoes, not cheap or worn out sneakers. Base running, for example, requires you to have good quality shoes, as does playing your position in the field. Balance and support for your feet are critical, especially when you factor in the variety of conditions you may have to play under. Good footwear is one way to reduce the risk of many types of injuries, falls, sprains and so forth. Players who are serious about baseball should get cleats or baseball shoes that are well made and fit well.

Safety should always be an area of concern in baseball, and it’s often the little things that make a difference. The rules of safety are important for everyone, but young players in particular have to be watched and frequently reminded of how to play responsibly. The unexpected can always occur, but the fact is, many baseball accidents are completely preventable if such simple principles are followed.
