15 VW XL 1

Article 15 VW XL 1

I think we are entering a particular interesting era in the industry of car manufacturing. For many many years the industry has been focussed on speed, power and the desire to develop more and more expensive cars. However with the cost of fuel continually on the rise and increasing concerns about the environment electric, cars and hybrids are really paving the future of the automotive industry.

Even though the electrification of cars is becoming more and more mainstream, pure electric cars are not expected to be common place for at least another 3 or 4 decades. However the manufacturers are tending to focus more on the combination of electric and fuel engines to create something cost effective and environmentally friendly.

German rivals VW and BMW are focussing on the development of electric carbon fibre cars. The usage of carbon fibre will ensure that the overall weight of the cars is reduced thus reducing weight, improving aero-dynamics and assisting improvements and developments of car engines.

VW are about to unveil their first carbon fibre Range Rover Sport Dealership Bishops Stortford car at a forthcoming motor show in Qatar. The car combines a 0.8 litre two cylinder diesel engine with an electric motor. Named the Volkswagen XL1 the car can travel 313 miles on a gallon of diesel and emits just 24 grammes of carbon dioxide per kilometre travelled. How does it look? Well obviously the car is still very much in its concept stages but I would say it is like a futuristic Scirocco with a hint of Audi TT! All in all, not bad looking!
