You Need to be Properly Educated Before You Can Maintain a Healthy Fish Tank
Education goes hand in hand with populating a custom fish tank. You cannot just expect to buy a load of new fish and watch them swim happily around all day. You have assumed responsibility for their health and to do your new job properly you need education.
For example did you know that most fish don’t use their nostrils just to breathe like other animals and birds? The primary function is to smell food. Fish are not great at breeding in captivity and you need to be a very experienced owner before taking on this additional responsibility. Perhaps one reason why there is little breeding is the fact that most fish will go out of their way looking for safe locations for their eggs and in the average aquarium these shelters just do not exist. Another reason is that often people buy two male fish rather than a male and female as it can be difficult to tell them apart. In live bearing fishes, you can usually distinguish the sexes by the shape of their anal fin. Some aquarists will experiment trying to interbreed different species. Their success rate depends on a mixture of the species, their experience and other factors in the custom fish tank.
