The Wide World of Ceiling Fans
Do you remember when ceiling fans first came out? They came in only two varieties, white and wood veneer. I know you remember, the wood ones had those wicker insets. And when you went to clean them, dust was stuck in all the wicker. They were a pain to clean.
But traditional ceiling fans started out that way for a reason. Think about it. Just about every ceiling known to man is white. So an all white ceiling fan is going to just blend into the ceiling. Of course, we all know how white shows dirt. The alternative then was to clean it a lot, or get the other kind. What living room does not have wood in it somewhere; be it an end table or the entertainment center. So the fan blends into the room’s d?cor.
Did not take us long to put lights on the traditional ceiling fans. It also did not take long to learn that the light had to go below the blades, otherwise you would get a flutter effect in the room from the blades casting shadows. And most fans came with multiple lights. 3 or so that aimed around the room. And they are covered with glass globes, which now, even choosing which of those can take hours.
Traditional ceiling fans have withstood the test of time. Walk into any store that sells fans and I am sure you will find those two amongst the rest of modern day ones. And there will be a lot of contemporary ones as well. From fans with chandeliers, to ones with large blades resembling plant life. There are even ones where there are no long blades but little circular fans that actually spin around from the ceiling.
So with all that is out there to chose from, I wish you luck!
