Giclee art

Apart from oil painting reproductions, there are also many other forms of reproduction artworks, such as Lithographs, serigraphs, and giclees. With the ever-increasing popularity of giclee reproductions, The following share some information about art giclees.

The newest form of reproductions i think is art giclees which based in the most sophisticated technology at present. What is Giclee? Usually these reproductions start with high resolution photos of original painting and then transferred onto other mediums by ink-jet printers.

The medium of  giclee digital reproductions can be canvas or paper. If you want to preserve those artworks for long time, you should take some special care. Please read the following tips that will help you:

Environment: A stable enviroment is very important for those displayed art giclees, any fluctuations in temperature and humidity would damage the painting. And for those reproductions on paper, condensation may form on the inside of the glass creating conditions for mold or deterioration of the paper. Such fluctuations may ill affect the stretched canvas relinquishing it loose and unmanageable if it is canvas reproduction. It is better to keep a constant in temperature and humidity as cracking may occur under very dry conditions.     

Sunlight: Giclees is different with original art and oil painting reproductions, it contains UV treatments in the archival inks as well as the varnish or clear coat. So it is not so important to avoid the sunlight. There have been many tests that shows the art giclees can withstand fading and deterioration due to sunlight. Some experts estimate that giclees can last up to 75 years without signs of decline. However, when selecting that perfect spot for displaying your artwork you may want to keep in mind the general lighting conditions.

Handling: No matter what artworks, should be handle carefuly. When moving art reproductions, it may cause damage of frames, canases, glass and so on. Moreover, touching the surface of the giclee may deposit natural oils from your skin that may have an adverse affect on the longevity of the surface of the painting. And keep sharp objects away from canvas art to avoid any damage to the canvas.

Cleaning: When cleaning the fine art reproductions, we should be more careful. If you want to remove dust, you can use a light brush. If further cleaning is required use a very damp cloth ( water only ) and lightly brush the surface of the giclee. Do not use household cleaning tools to clean artworks. And never scrub the surface of a canvas giclee. For extensive cleaning and/or repair.. always consult an art professional.
