Nissan Leaf reverse speed test
The Nissan Leaf has been around since March 2011, it is a plug in electric vehicle that does not require petrol or diesel, just a battery recharge. Its drive train is hugely different from that of a conventional combustion engined car; it does not use a traditional gearbox either.
The electric power train means that, in theory the Nissan Leaf can go as fast in reverse as it can forward. To put this to the test Nissan has decided to enter the Goodwood Festival of Speed hill climb. The Leaf, available from Nissan cars in Guildford will set a new record if it can do the entire hill climb in reverse.
Nissan have more stunts lined up for this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. Nissan will be bringing along the very popular Nissan Juke, it will do the hill climb on only two wheels. If successful the Nissan Juke will be the fastest four-wheeled machine to climb the hill on just two wheels.
Professional stunt driver, Terry Grant, will be the man attempting to set the records in the LEAF and Juke by performing the stunts once every day he said: “I’ve experienced Goodwood before but never attempted to set a new record. To have the chance to grab not only one but two records at the same event will hopefully provide everyone with a very entertaining spectacle.”
So if you are lucky enough to attend the event this year expect a few more unusual entries, it will be nice if this inspired other manufacturers to enter with crazy ideas of their own.
