A more fuel efficient Audi A1
The Audi supermini, the A1 appears to be a hit with consumers. Slowly we are starting to see more and more on the road, which is a very positive sign for the German car maker. One of the drawbacks that were highlighted on launch of the A1 was that it didn’t have a highly fuel efficient model like some of its competitors.
Audi has now addressed this with the launch of the more fuel efficient version of the Audi A1 1.6 TDI. It only emits 99g/km of CO2, which means no road tax and no London Congestion Charge, with a fuel consumption figure of 74.3mpg! The on the road prices remain unchanged, for the SE, Sport and S line models with prices starting from £14,480 and going up to £17,865.
According to Audi revisions made to the fuel system and engine management system have reduced CO2 output of the Audi A1 1.6 TDI from 105g/km to 99g/km and brought an increase in fuel efficiency from 70.6mpg to 74.3mpg. These figures are supported by the engine start-stop feature and energy recuperation system.
The Audi A1 1.6 TDI’s turbo charged and directly injected common rail diesel engine unit is mated to a five speed manual transmission, and can reach 62mph from standstill in an impressive 10.5 seconds, and has a top speed of 118mph.
The Audi A1 in Edinburgh features alloy wheels, remote central locking, air conditioning, electric front windows and mirrors and a six-speaker single CD audio system with auxiliary iPod connection linked to a 6.5-inch retractable display.
