Making More Space – Knowing What to Delete
A SanDisk Extreme Pro CF comes in many different sizes and with many different specs and it is capable of holding up to 64GB. You can even have more than one SanDisk Extreme Pro CF and as they’re so small still carry them with you and make the most of having several times that amount of data with you on the go.
Despite this though many of us still manage to find ourselves reaching the limits of our SanDisk Extreme Pro CF and thus having to make room if we want to delete anything else. Knowing what to delete in this situation can be hard and it can feel stressful having to choose something to get rid of whether it’s a favorite film or song, or a folder of photos from an old holiday.
In this situation you need to find a way to decide what to delete, and how you’re going to make enough space to fit whatever it is on your SanDisk Extreme Pro CF. Go to ‘My Computer’ to begin with and find the memory card. Right click on this and go to properties and here you will be able to find precisely how much space is on your device and how much of that space is available. Now right click on the item you want to drag onto the card and look again at the properties and this will tell you how large the item is so that you know how much you need to delete.
You now have the option of deleting several smaller things such as pictures and songs, or one or two larger things such as films and computer programmes. There’s a simple way to find which things are larger when you view the folder with Windows and that’s to find the tab at the top that says ‘Size’. Click this and it will automatically organize the files in order of their size (clicking it again will reverse the order so that you can have either the smallest items at the top or the largest).
Now you will be able to easily see the files that are the largest and by deleting these files first you will be able to free up the most space and fit the most new things onto your computer. Note however that folders won’t be reorganized in the same way – you’ll need to look inside them to view the files independently to see which is largest in here.
Of the largest items you want to go for the ones that you use the least, and which can be most easily retrieved in other ways. Chances are that there are some files on your SanDisk Extreme Pro CF that you don’t need and don’t use and of course these can go. If you have any directories on your disk which are used by programs such as games/word processors/photo editing software etc then there are likely some files on here which aren’t required for the programmes to run – things like help and readme files for instance (though these will be small) and in some cases full demos for other software.
These are all ways you can make more space on your SanDisk Extreme Pro CF. Follow the links to purchase a 64GB Compact Flash.
