The scenic beauty of Northern India is amazing. On your India tours, you will discover that India is full of natural beauty. The northern part of the country is full of beautiful mountains, rivers, wildlife etc. India is not a home to one of the best lakes of the world. However, the few that exists are pretty good and worth visiting. On your India tours, do make it a point to visit the beautiful lakes (artificial as well as natural) of the country. One amongst these few beautiful lakes is the Nakki Lake located in the Mount Abu hill station.
Mount Abu is the only hill station in Rajasthan. It has been a very famous tourist place since the very beginning. Mount Abu is best known for its temples dedicated to the Jain and Hindu Gods and Goddesses. Apart from that, it is also known for the highest peak of the Aravallis, the Gurshikhar peak (located at a distance of about 15 kilometers from the hill station). Mount Abu has another famous tourist joint, the Nakki Lake. The Nakki Lake has attracted tourists over the years. On India tours, it is a must stop by spot for tourists.
The Nakki Lake is an artificial lake. This lake is about half a mile long and is approximately twenty to thirty feet deep. One must visit place around the Nakki Lake is the Toad Rock. The Toad Rock has been named after its appearance. The toad rock looks like a toad which is about to jump into the lake from the hill. There is the sunset point near the lake from where you can see a very prominent and clear sunset. However, the Sunset point is forbidden due to the perilous braid that leads the way to it. This restriction comes for the safety of the tourists. There is also the Ragunath Temple near the lake. There are boating clubs which give you a chance to do some boating in the lake. Another important trivia regarding the lake is that the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of Nation, were immersed in this lake itself. A Mahatma Gandhi Ghat has been constructed around the place where the ashes were immersed.
There are two stories related to the origin of this lake. Some people assume that the Nakki Lake was created by Hindu Gods while seeking a safe haven from the scourges of Demon Bashkali. Folklore about the lake is that it was dug by a man named Rasiya Balam who wanted to marry the king’s daughter. The king had proclaimed that whosoever will dig the lake in one night will get to marry the king’s daughter. Thus, Rasiya Balam dug the lake in one night, married the King’s daughter and that is how the Nakki Lake was created.
The origin of this lake may be vague but one can have no doubt about its beauty. The Nakki Lake is a beautiful place and it is must visit place on India tours.
