In California by the year of later 1930s Hot rod culture might have started where people modified cars and race between them under the rules created by Southern California Timing Association (SCTA). This Hot rod culture started growing drastically after the World War II especially in California because of soldiers who returned to their places after the war.
Mostly old Ford car models like Model Ts and Model Bs is highly considered to be modified as Hot rods and the modifications includes modifying the engine, convertible tops, hoods, windshields, bumpers and also paint job is done to give extreme look and better performance. In the 1950s hot rods became more popular in racing in streets which is done in the abandoned military airports where initially only drag racing was done in tracks of one mile long. It was peak time for the Hot rods which made the government to form a separate organizations started like California Hot Rod Reunion and National Hot Rod Reunion to develop rules as well as conduct legal racing. In 1970s automobile started to introduce cars with increased performance so that Hot rods are outsmarted but in 1973 due o oil demand automakers are asked to tune cars with better fuel efficiency than speed so that again Hot rods came back to its popularity and it exists till date.
