The city’s heritage is well depicted in the high-end Jodhpur hotels. The city of Jodhpur caters to everyone, with Jodhpur hotels in all classes available for the general public.
The Umaid Bhawan Palace, also commonly known as the Jodhpur palace, is a marvel of its own. Located on the Chittar Hill in south eastern Jodhpur, the palace was brought into the Taj hotels fold in 2005 and continues to amaze tourists from all over the world. It was designed by renowned architects Henry Vaughan Lanchester and Budhmal Rai to be a blend of Indian and European architectural influences and replace Mehrangarh Fort as the symbol of Jodhpur.
Built between 1928 and 1943 the entire palace was conceived out of golden-yellow sandstone, carved and interlocked with each other in a perfect embrace of beauty and grandeur. The palace grounds span 26 acres (10.5 ha), out of which the constructed area covers only 3.5 acres (1.4 ha) leaving the rest of land devoted to scenic beauty.
But external beauty is not all that the palace offers. It flaunts of four luxury rooms, 20 Deluxe rooms, 28 regal Suites, 10 Royal Suites, one Grand Presidential Suite (Maharani Suite) and one Grand Royal Suite (Maharaja Suite) all decorated and panelled in Art Deco style. The Maharaja and Maharani Suite have been embellished with murals of Goddess Kali by self-exiled artist Stefan Norblin and span more than 4000 sq ft including a glass tiled bathroom and a steam room, personal dining space for around 10 guests and en suite couple therapy room; the amenities also include bath menu and private yoga room.
The lavish historical and royal suites provide all modern amenities with each suite designed in a different theme ranging from classic maroon to gold sage.
The Palace rooms also embellished with Art Deco interiors and Neo-Classical furniture promise a true blend of the modern and the antiquated.
The palace also offers magnificent venues for holding conferences and banquets with the courtly behaviour of palace staff adding to a regal ambience. The palace also has a private museum, the Ali Akbar Khan amphitheatre that can be booked for film screenings and lecture demonstrations, a yoga studio, indoor and outdoor swimming pool and Taj Spa facilities, a beauty salon and a shopping complex for the comfort of its guests.
The depiction of Umaid Bhawan’s grandeur is endless but its perennial radiance is a must see while travelling to Jodhpur .
