Special Chrome Audi R8 Spyder
Sir Elton John and David Furnish will once again be hosting The White Tie and Tiara Ball. Audi has donated a new special chromed out Audi R8 Spider for the auction event; Audi offers these special models for special occasions. Money raised from the auction will be donated to the Elton John Aids Foundation (EJAF).
The Audi R8 features a mirror-like chromed finish created especially for the occasion on 23rd June 2011, in an attempt to attract the highest possible bids in the auction. Jeremy Hicks, Director of Audi UK said, “Sir Elton John’s fundraising ball really is a golden ticket event that is as glamorous as it is hugely effective in fundraising terms, we are delighted, and enormously proud, to support it for a ninth year with the donation of what is arguably our most fittingly glamorous model.”
The Audi R8 Spyder to be auctioned features an automatic lightweight fabric hood, a ten cylinder 525PS petrol engine with manual transmission, with a 0-62mph time of 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 194mph. Normally, the car would have an on the road price of £117,710!
The Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF), established in 1993, is amongst the ten largest AIDS grant-making organisations in the world, and currently manages over £14million in programmes across 15 countries and supports thousands of men, woman and children with life-saving medication, as well as information, nutrition, education, shelter and support. The White Tie & Tiara Ball is now in its 13th year, and has been provided with special auction lots by Audi for the past eight years.
