UK Avensis to be exported to Japan
When you think of a Japanese car and Japanese manufacturers you assume that these cars are made in Japan and then imported into the UK. But, for years now Japanese manufacturers have been producing cars in the UK, like the Nissan Juke in Sunderland, the new Honda in Warrington and many Toyota models.
Now, the Toyota Avensis, which is exclusively built at Toyota’s UK factory in Burnaston will be exported to Japan. The UK Toyota plant already exports the model to 47 countries across the world.
UK Business Secretary Vince Cable said: “Toyota exports 85 per cent of the cars and engines it makes at its UK plants in Burnaston and Deeside. Today’s news that it will now also export its Avensis model to Japan is a tribute to the skills of the workforce, the efficiency of the plant and the quality of its products.”
Toyota Motor Manufacturing (UK) Ltd Managing Director Katsunori Kojima said: “We are very proud that the Avensis has been selected for export to Japan. This is yet another vote of confidence for the factory and the high quality of our products.”
Toyota made the decision to export the Toyota Avensis to its home country after consumer demand for European styling and design grew. The Toyota Avensis Tourer version will be made available, featuring a 2.0 litre engine with Multi drive S continuously variable transmission (CVT). 750 vehicles a month will be shipped from the UK, with production beginning in July 2011.
Honda will also be exporting cars out its Swindon plant to other countries, the Type R will be produced in the UK but due to EU emissions laws it will not be sold here.
