LG Joins Forces To Make Art

LG have incorporated the symbolic artwork of Keith Haring into their Optimus Black handset – making it more than just the world’s slimmest and lightest smartphone.

Keith Haring Foundation

Haring was an artist and social activist whose work responded to the New York City street culture of the 1980s. With recognisable pieces such as his ‘Radiant Baby’, all his work was produced in bold lines, vivid colors, with active figures carrying strong messages of life and unity.

Diagnosed with AIDS in 1988, a year later Haring established the Keith Haring Foundation. Its mandate was to provide funding and imagery to AIDS organizations and children’s programs, and to expand the audience for Haring’s work through exhibitions, publications and the licensing of his images. Haring enlisted his imagery during the last years of his life to speak about his own illness and generate activism and awareness about AIDS.

He died of AIDS related complications at the age of 31 on February 16, 1990.

LG Optimus Black

Two of the late pop-artist’s iconic images have been selected to emblazon the back cover of the LG Optimus Black. This is not the first time that LG have partnered with the Keith Haring Foundation, the first being 2008’s collaboration for the KF600 and KF700 with the goal of introducing art across the digital age.

The Optimus Black offers the perfect canvas for Haring’s work; it already makes a stylish statement with its sleek and smooth lines. Weighing in at just 109 grams, this is the world’s slimmest and lightest smartphone, measuring just 6mm at its thinnest.
