The Brahman Bull Heritage … in Hawaii?!
I thought going to Daytona for Bike Week was an awesome trip. Too bad I didn’t get an invitation to head to Hawaii with Mckennon Wimberly and Sean Willingham last week. The two professional bull riders went down to Paniolo to conduct a bull riding clinic (Paniolo means cowboy in Hawaiian). Little did they know that their trip would be the catalyst for a heated discussion between me, Fred and the fella who owns the ranch where I live. I want to know why I haven’t been to Hawaii!
Apparently, everyone but me knew that Hawaii has a rich cowboy heritage. The first bulls arrived in 1793, as a gift to the current king. What I want to know is: how did they get those bulls over there?! It’s hard enough to get me to go anywhere, especially inside a building – it’s always so small inside and it smells weird. A boat is out of the question.
What’s even cooler is that the really great bucking bulls that were and are known in Hawaii are treated like super studs! Kids call their name in the streets and people come to have their pictures taken with them. Enough to make a stud feel like a king.
So how are you going to get me to Hawaii Fred? I need to go, uh, research my Brahman heritage there.
Yea, that’s it.
It’s not about the great weather, fields of dandelions (yes, I heard they had FIELDS of them!) or being treated like a celebrity by the locals. Okay, it’s mostly about that. But don’t forget that “The Hawaiians”, as they are referred to in PBR events, are closely related to Brahman bulls. That fact probably has a lot to do with their popularity and talent. Brahmans have always been the superior bull. But enough about what everyone already knows…
You can find out more about these unique bucking bulls on the PBRnow website.
In the meantime, if you would like to show support for my trip to Hawaii, post a comment here, my facebook page or via twitter that says: “Seymour bulls in Hawaii!”
Together, we can get me the trip I deserve.
