Why is it so hard to enter a kindergarten?
With the development of economy, China has made a great progress in every side. But it still has some questions in education. For example, it is hard to enter into a school.
In fact, this problem is still very obvious, especially in kindergarten. I heard that parents should book several years in advance, if they want to send their children to a public kindergarten. And there is no public kindergarten near their home. Parents want their children to receive a good education but not all can afford that. In some big cities, it is hard to find a famous kindergarten that charges less than 1000 Yuan per month. That equals to one-third of family’s income.
In recent years, when one kindergartens starts to enroll students, parents and grandparents will wait in the long lines which indicates that the existing kindergartens are far from enough to meet demand.
It is estimated that in 2014, there will be 540000 children at the age of three to six in Beijing while the current state-run kindergartens can receive only half of them.
In my opinion, the government should increase investment, because public services like education can not merely rely on private sectors. But the government could encourage non-governmental sectors to build more kindergartens. For example, the government could support qualified private kindergartens as much as state-running kindergartens.
