Kundalini Yoga and Drugs

Kundalini yoga rejuvenates us and repairs damage to our body and brain due to drug use. If you haven’t taken drugs, you have a head start. Basic exercises help us overcome the negative effects of all types of drugs and stress and revitalize our whole system. Kundalini Yoga strengthens our navel center and nervous system, and opens our third eye and crown chakras gradually and naturally. Kundalini Yoga mantras open our crown chakra and soothe our whole being with the cosmic sound.

You can experience many benefits from practicing Kundalini Yoga for 40, 90 or 120 days. Whatever your current condition, it heals your system at a pace and in the progression suited to where you are at.

When Yogi Bhajan arrived in the US in 1969, many of the young people attending his classes were using various recreational drugs to have spiritual, mystical and psychic experiences. As a result of taking psychedelics, many people were experiencing out of phase and disjointed views of reality. Perceptual illusions happen when the nerves stimulated by the drugs continue to fire, even after the drugs have seemingly worn off.

The use of certain drugs can artificially open and over extend the upper chakras, causing them to be unable to process information accurately and preventing them from properly closing.

Yogi Bhajan began to teach powerful Kundalini Yoga Kriyas (1) to bring the chakras and body systems back into balance and (2) to offer a drug free way to get high and spiritually connected, Originally he intended to teach Hatha yoga, but he quickly recognized the need for something more powerful and effective.

The practice of Kundalini Yoga

creates the natural opening, functioning and balancing of the chakras and

promotes the gradual and healthy awakening of consciousness.

Damaging Effects of Drugs

The purification, charging and balancing of our body systems depends upon the free flow of the sexual ojas or charged energy and the effectiveness of the pumping mechanism of those fluids into the bloodstream and to the brain.

For any yoga to be effective, the body must be able to (1) distribute and use the sexual energy and (2) to activate and raise the Kundalini. The use of drugs that inhibit the flow and movement of the sexual fluids and the activation of the Kundalini is self-defeating.

Taking any drugs that create imbalances in the body and energy centers is counter productive to the evolutionary awakening of consciousness and to the attainment of our spiritual goals.

Yogi Bhajan explained that the use of marijuana distorts the directional mechanism in our psyche. I remember very vividly when told us at a Summer Solstice lecture in New Mexico in the early 2000’s that the use of marijuana takes us off course so that when we leave our body, ‘we will miss our mark.’ The space under the big top, where over 1000 people had gathered to be with the Master, got so quiet, you could hear a pin drop.

The practice of Kundalini Yoga allied to a cleansing diet reverses the harmful effects of drugs and repairs the damage done to the nervous and chakra systems. And it rejuvenates us!
