A Quick and Simple Starcraft 2 Protoss Strategy Guide
Just a few months ago Blizzard posted their recent Battle.net records, and Protoss is said to have the most winning portion. Which means that if you’re planning to adhere with Protoss, then now is probably the best time. Now, of course this doesn’t mean that just because you’re playing as Protoss you’ll win every game.
However even though Protoss is to some degree over powered you’ll still need a excellent strategy and a reliable starting build order to really master Protoss and master your games. But before we get in to the Protoss build order, there are some points I want to cover.
Protoss has some of the strongest units in the entire game of StarCraft 2 that’s one of the reason as to why they’re to some extent over powered. But in addition because of that their units and structures are also significantly more expensive, and take longer to build. Fortunately, Protoss has this unique skill that allows them to quicken their unit production and research time called Chrono Boost. So use this ability like there is no tomorrow since it will make the difference in winning or losing a game, especially for early rush builds!
Finally, remember that contrary to Zerg and Terrans, Protoss can literally command their Probe to construct a building and then go right back to collecting resources while the building is being build!
Now, we can finally get back to this easy and quick Protoss build order. Begin the game with 6 Probes and get them obtain Minerals. Build 3 more probes as resources enables, and once you have reached 9 Probes choose one and order it to construct a Pylon (ideally close to the entrance ramp of your base. Note: if you’re playing a 1 vs. 1 game use that same Probe to scout you’re opponent’s base.
As soon as the Pylon is completed produce 4 to 5 more Probes and use Chrono Boost to speed up the process. At this point you should have sufficient resources to build a Gateway too . Once you obtained the resources to build that Gateway then do it, and of course you need to always be training more Probes. It is also a good idea to build a second Pylon around 14 – 15 Supply (Probes).
From here on depending on strategy you have in mind you ought to change what you built next. For example if you’re going for a fast Zealot rush thne you should build a second Gateway as soon as poosible! If you’re going for mass Stalker, build around 15 drones and built one Assimilator for gas, and a Cybernetics Core. Or you want go for a high gas or high technology strategy with Void Rays, Colossus, or Immortals then you should get 2 Assimilators right away.
And… if you’re unsure what is the best build to go for in any particular game, or how to pull of the most efficient builds for Protoss, I highly recommend you check out my many Starcraft 2 protoss strategies at Your Starcraft 2 Guide
