Easy Tips on Painting Molding in a Carpeted Room

· As logical as it sounds, you need to choose the color you want to paint your trim before you begin. There are a number of options, depending on your situation. You can either match the color of the wall exactly, vary from that color a little to give the room a more diverse feel, or choose something altogether new. What works best will depend on your personal preferences and the dynamics of the room. To figure it out, buy paint samples and try them out on the trim.
· Place tarps down all over the perimeter of the room, and make sure they overlap a little. Put the edge of the tarp into the space between the trim and the carpet’s edge. With the flat end and handle of the knife, ease the tarp into that space and into the corner of the room. It is important that the carpet be completely covered and sealed. Conversely, the trim should be as exposed as possible.
· Tape the tarp to the carpet to keep it flat. Also place masking tape right where the top of the trim meets the wall, leaving no space but keeping the trim exposed. Do this around the entire perimeter and overlap the tape when you are done.
· It’s now time to paint the trim, so move from one end all the way around. The side and top of the trim should be covered. Don’t brush beyond the perimeter of the masking tape, and allow the paint to dry. If necessary, apply a second coat.
