Fix Your iPhone Yourself – when Is It Possible?

One of the biggest gripes iPhone users tend to have with their beloved devices is the cost of maintaining them in good condition – even though you have to pay a lot in the initial purchase, this doesn’t exhaust all the money you’ll be spending on the device, and depending on the circumstances you may be in for a lot of spending if you ever need a more serious repair on that iPhone. Don’t worry though – with the right know-how, it’s entirely possible to fix an iPhone yourself (if the damage isn’t too severe, of course) – you just need some patience and the simple ability to look for information on the Internet!

First, start by analyzing the extent of the damage – it may not be as bad as you think! There are some very convenient guides available online which can take you through this analysis process step by step, helping you figure out exactly what’s wrong with your iPhone before you move to the next step and actually attempt repairing it. In most cases though, you’ll likely be looking to fix some physical issue – e.g. a cracked screen.

This begins by disassembling the iPhone properly. First, take out the SIM card, and unscrew the two screws located at the bottom of the iPhone. You should have a suction cup handy to lift the glass at this point, because it’s not very easy to do that without a tool of this sort. You can try a temporary adhesive (i.e. one that won’t stick to the glass permanently), but make sure it’s easy to wash off afterwards.

If the glass has been cracked severely, be very careful in lifting it up. You do not want to shatter it in pieces and have those scatter around the inside of the iPhone, as this will cause various problems later on and may even damage the device more severely. Replacing the glass after you’ve taken it out is as simple as plopping the new one in (you may need to do some small adjustments afterwards).

And sometimes, all you need to do to fix your iPhone is to have some patience. If you’ve got your iPhone wet, for example, what you should do is to take it apart as much as you can, and if you know how you should attempt to remove the battery. DO NOT attempt to dry the phone manually with a hair dryer or by leaving it on the radiator for a while – the water must evaporate naturally, otherwise you’ll cause even more serious damage to your iPhone and it may even be permanent! This can be especially problematic if the water has spilled on the screen, as it can leave permanent stains of discoloration on it, which can look extremely unsightly and there won’t be anything you could do about those. That’s why we said that in order to fix your iPhone, you’ll mostly need patience – many people are hasty to get the water out of the device as soon as possible, and only end up ruining it.
