Why Is an iPhone Repair so Costly?
One of the problems iPhone users commonly face in their use of the device is the high costs of repairs and maintenance in general – if your iPhone breaks down and you’re out of warranty or the damage can’t be covered by that warranty, you should set yourself up for paying quite a bit to get that issue resolved. However, if you’re wondering where all this money is going and if there are better solutions to the problem – there are!
In most cases, when you need to repair your iPhone, you’ll be sending it to Apple directly. And this tends to cost quite a bit for various reasons – logistics and transportation, original replacement parts, as well as labor. Apple aren’t exactly known for being very cheap on their products, and this extends all the way to their support – if you need to get your replacement parts from them, or send your device for repair directly, you’ll have to pay quite a bit to get that job done.
But you may be surprised that you can often get that repair done for far less by taking your iPhone to a third-party shop which handles phone repairs in general. Of course, this depends on the severity of the damage – it’s not rare that it may actually be cheaper to send the phone back to Apple, but it’s also not rare that getting your iPhone repair done at one of those smaller third-party stores would cost you significantly less than having it done by Apple themselves. Plus, if the store is local, you could also get your iPhone back in far less time than if you had to send it to Apple and wait for it to first arrive to them, then for them to repair it, then to send it back.
One of the factors which affects the price of an iPhone repair the most is the need for additional parts – if there’s going to be a need to order lots of replacements, make sure you let the shop owner know that you’re looking for a cost-efficient solution. They’ll understand what you mean in most cases, and should be able to cut you some attractive deals with third-party replacement parts – which, even though they may not be coming directly from Apple, still work perfectly fine and would allow you to get that repair done more quickly (depending on the availability) and of course for less money.
Don’t always count on third-party replacements as an ultimate solution though. There are cases when it might be a more viable idea to get the parts from Apple themselves, just like with the actual repair. For example, things like an iPhone screen tend to cost a lot to produce no matter if you’re Apple or someone else, so if you’re able to get a good deal on that part from Apple (or rather, unable to get a better deal elsewhere), don’t hesitate to pay them for it – in the end, your phone’s longevity would benefit from that!
