What is the best compact car on the market?

Compact cars have hit new heights of popularity over the last few years thanks to increased specification within base models, as well as new levels of comfort, style and refinement.

A good option then if you’re looking for a head-turning motor that will turn over a decent MPG around town – but what is the one to go for? With so many on the market at the moment it can be difficult to pin down what you’re looking for. Everyone has certain marques that they feel drawn to when thinking bout buying a new car, but the compact car market is currently awash with good-looking, sophisticated motors that would easily be welcomed into many a garage – Alfa Romeo or not.

For the last 10 years the Ford Focus has been at the forefront of many a punter’s minds thanks to it’s unique, quirky looks, excellent cabin and great handling. The Focus’s latest incarnation represents everything that has been good about the Ford best-seller over the years, but with added bonus of being genuinely really desirable.

Another example currently making waves in the compact car market is the Mazda 3.

A newly developed engine range, coupled with improvements to braking and transmission, ensures the latest ‘3’ is a car that is both powerful and agile. The two new 2.2-litre diesel engines provide amazing fuel economy and go well beyond current emissions requirements.

Improved fuel economy and significantly reduced CO2 emissions – keeping you away from the pumps for longer. Then there’s the industry-leading stop-start technology called i-stop, which also helps you keep the fuel bills down.

It looks incredible – the bold, expressive Mazda3 design ensures it stands out from other compact cars.
