Not A Love Story Review 2011 Live From Theater Online Not A Love Story is certainly not a bad story. But it doesn’t boast of great storytelling either. At the end, you remain indifferent towards the partners in crime! Making a film on a real life incident is certainly not easy. First, it’s important to get the facts right and second the daunting task to make it entertaining/interesting enough with a rock-solid screenplay. As far as the film is concerned, it’s rudimentary filmmaking at the best: re-enactment of newspaper clippings, with depth of a newspaper. What the film lacks could make a long list but for brevity’s sake – the art of storytelling! Maverick filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma who has the knack of making even the fictional films look real takes up this daunting task and comes up with Not A Love Story; a film based on the 2008 Neeraj Grover murder case.

‘Not A Love Story’ is voyeuristic and exploitative, and shamelessly borders on soft-. It’s saved to some extent by a credible performance from Mahie Gill, who succeeds in humanizing her character despite the odds that are stacked against her. Maverick filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma who has the knack of making even the fictional films look real takes up this daunting task and comes up with Not A Love Story; a film based on the 2008 Neeraj Grover murder case.
