Purchasing previously owned machines and materials can save your budget
As one of the most expensive pieces of equipment you want to purchase and have in your manufacturing warehouse, a CNC milling machine (Computer Numerically Controlled) can cost you more than an employees’ annual salary, but not be worth that much if it is directly off of the line it was made on. Purchasing a used Haas or even a used Mazak machine is going to keep your budget under wraps and allow you the financial freedom to hire someone with more experience, higher education, or to acquire even more machinery to do even more work to get your business off to a great start as soon as the doors open and the machinery is fully operational.
Buying a previously owned piece of machinery can put anyone on the defensive. Where did it come from? Why is it being sold? Are there any warranties? Were there any previous problems? When you are purchasing from a reputable reseller all of these questions are easily answered. The machines are not being sold off because they were defective or broken, but because another business that did what you are trying to do had to close their doors. Through no fault of the machines they have been liquidated, and the other company’s loss is your gain.
The equipment has already gone through a rigorous testing process and has been vetted for any defects that could cause problems. The machines are also given a warranty through the reseller, as well as a guarantee that they have been thoroughly inspected for safety and proven to process efficiently. They are given an obviously discounted price tag and put out for businesses just like yours to take advantage of the offer and purchase them for your profit.
To buy directly from a manufacturer seems a bit lavish and almost an irresponsible use of startup funds, considering you can get the same product but pay only what it is actually worth. Depreciation has already been taken in to consideration and is no longer a factor as the item has been discounted to reflect its already being used and previously owned. If you were to buy new, you would be paying more for an item than it is actually worth, and if that is the type of fiscal responsibility you harbor, opening up your own business might not be the right path for you.
Budget mishaps and misrepresentations are the number one cause of a business going under. Don’t make the same mistake that the other companies using CNC machines did and get in a position where you have to liquidate and sell off all of your equipment in order to recoup some of the funds you squandered. Purchasing used is a great way to get a perfectly operational, fully functioning, and energetically efficient product at a price you can afford. With the warranty and guarantee that is in place at the time of purchase, there is not a reason you can come up with to buy brand new instead of previously owned. It just makes sense.
